Create A Checklist for Success
Does the word “goals” bring to mind the umpteen New Year’s resolutions that have taken wings and flown away? Sure, you start out the year with grand plans to make big bucks, retire early and spend years cruising the globe, but reality strikes and June brings your business’ profits no closer to skyrocketing than that cup of cold coffee on your desk.
Go sharpen your pencil, and let’s scratch out some marketing goals that will really make a difference in the amount of money on your next bank statement. What have you been looking for in the past? Are you, like so many marketers, looking for higher volume and more income?
When was the last time you looked into the mirror, no I mean *REALLY* looked in the mirror and noticed that, guess what, you’re getting older. It happens to everyone… nothing we can do about. Yeah, I know! It’s an unhappy reminder that retirement isn’t as far off as it used to be. In fact, just this morning I inspected the deepening lines around my eyes, and wondered how to make the next decade really count. With a shake of my head, I tried to dismiss yesterday’s calls from three very unsatisfied customers. My ears were still stinging from their words, then it dawned on me. Just maybe, dismissing them was the wrong thing to do.
Yeah, many marketers reach for the stars, when the real source for success is beneath their feet just waiting to be mined. Customers are the foundation for increased income and a higher number of sales. Alongside your dollar signs and numbers, take a minute to jot down a few objectives for building lasting customer relationships. What will it take…a higher level of quality in your product, more friendly service…?
If you’re like me, you look at big businesses that boom overnight and think they have some secret formula that gives them claim to sudden, easy wealth. Maybe they do, but have you taken the time to look at how long they last? Do you remember that little Internet bubble we had just a few short years ago? A lot of them BOOMED, and then most of them BUSTED - not exactly the goal I have in mind for my business.
OK, so we’re not only looking for big bucks and an astronomical sales number, we’re looking for the things that bring real and lasting success. And yes, customers are the vehicle that will send our sales into orbit. So what are you waiting for? Put down that pencil, and find out what it takes to turn them into satisfied customers!
